BHOPAL: The Congress has alleged that poor pace of computerization in Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has compounded difficulties of people of Bhopal.
Congress corporator Manish Yadav, who raised the issue of computerization in the recent municipal council meeting, said proper computerization would have facilitated works like online payment of taxes, issuance of birth and death certificates and release of NOCs and pension.
Yadav had sought reply on purchase of laptops and computers by the civic body during the meeting. "The BMC had received funds under Department for International Development (DFID) aid from the UK in 2009. Since then, it has not spent any fund from its kitty for the advanced computerization of its offices. Ninety computers were installed by using the DFID funds. I wanted to know the exact amount spent for the purpose in the last four years," he said.
The online services of the BMC remained on paper as the requisite network and servers could not be installed, Yadav said. "Even adequate number of computer operators is not there in the wards," he said.
The question raised by the corporator could not be discussed owing to the pandemonium during the meeting of the council adjourned sine die.
When contacted mayor Krishna Gaur denied the charges leveled by the Congress.
"We have enough number of computers and laptops in our zonal offices and ward," she said refusing to reply about the issue of computer operators.
